Unsatisfactory (F)

Responses within this score range show little or not skill in responding to the task.

Responses in this score range show some developing, inconsistent skill in responding to the task.

Adequate (C)

Essays within this score range demonstrate adequate skill in responding to the task

Good (B)

Responses in this score range demonstrate competent skill in responding to the task.

Excellent (A)

Responses within this score range demonstrate effective skill in responding to the task.

Writing shows some understanding of the task. Prompt is addressed but not answered sufficiently. Writer uses generalization and general statements rather than specific details.

Good (B)

Writing shows an understanding of the task. Prompt is answered sufficiently in a general manner. Writers provides a few specific details, but could have elaborated further in several places.

Excellent (A)

Writing shows clear understanding of task. Prompt is answered correctly with specific details (such as names, dates, titles, events, people).
