Skeleton Triptych

Student is to draw a cropped skeleton triptych in pencil, outline in sharpie with line variation, and add a watercolor gradation to the background (negative space). Each square should consist of 80% bones and 20% negative space. Background should be filled with "Day of the Dead" inspired symbols or designs.

Design and creativity	Needs Improvement The student shows an undeveloped knowledge and application of art elements (line, shape , color, etc...) and little creativity. Skeleton is drawn "floating" in center of the page and does not occupy at least 80% of the space. Contour Lines are sketchy and have no variation. Painting in background shows no gradation and no "Day of the Dead" inspired symbols or design. 0-10 pts	Developing The student shows a developing knowledge and application of design elements and shows some creativity in design. Skeleton is not drawn to fill 80% of space but is not floating either. Contour Lines are smooth and have little variation. Painting in background shows some level of gradation. Very little to no "Day of the Dead" inspired design in background. 11-20 pts	Meets Expectations The student demonstrates knowledge and application of design elements and shows creativity in design. Skeleton is drawn to fill the space and there is a 80/20% ratio of positive to negative space occupied. Contour Lines are smooth and include line variation. Student blended more than one color in background and added a quality "Day of the Dead" inspired decoration. 20-23	Excellent The student shows an advanced knowledge and application of design elements and shows excellent creativity in design. Skeleton is perfectly drawn and fills at least 80% of each composition. Contour Lines are smooth and Varied, Attention to detail in skeleton and "Day of the Dead" design in background.
Craftsmanship	Needs Improvement The student does not make efforts to neatly use art materials.	Developing Craftmanship and neatness is not consistant.	Meets Expectations The student demonstrates good and adequate craftsmanship and neatness when using chosen art materials.	Excellent Excellent craftsmanship is demonstrated throughout the process of the project.
Attitude/Use of Class Time	Needs Improvement Student is at times argumentive and/or uninvolved. Student has much difficulty following classroom rules.	Developing Student is distracted and /or not doing assignment and needs reminders about task. Student needs reminders to follow rules and directions , bringing a pencil, and/or working quietly.	Meets Expectations Student demonstrates good attitude and redirection is rare. Student follows class rules well, works bell to bell.	Excellent Student demonstrates excellent attitude and work skills. Student follows all classroom rules independently.
Self-Critique	Needs Improvement Self critique incomplete.	Developing Student finished critique but did not use complete sentences or reflect on their project.	Meets Expectations Student finished their self-critique with mostly complete sentences and few spelling errors.	Excellent Student thoughtfully finished their self-critique with complete sentences and no spelling errors.
