Plot Diagram - Short Story Analysis and Summary

Students were required to select a short story from the 9th grade text and analyze it for the standard features of plot. (Exposition - Rising Action/Conflict - Climax - Falling Action - Resolution/Denouement)

Short Story Summary	2 Student does not appear to have a good handle on what the short story was trying to get across. Little or no sense of theme. Significant problems in conveying meaning	"C" Student wrote an acceptable summation but may lack a fluency and sophistication of stronger responses. May lack a clear sense of theme.	"B" Student wrote a good, solid summation, including his/her thoughts about author's purpose/theme.	"A" Student wrote an excellent summation incorporating a solid sense of theme into an engaging piece of writing.
Supporting Evidence Plot Diagram	2 Student did not include any examples from the story to illustrate the important parts of the plot.	"C" Student included only two examples from the story to illustrate parts of the plot.	"B" Student included three good examples from the story to illustrate parts of the plot.	"A" Students included drawing for all parts of the plot: the exposition, rising action, climax and the resolution.
