Weekly Vocabulary Word/Sentence Rubric

Define, list part of speech, syllables and draw a meaningful picture for each vocabulary word. Write a sentence for each of the vocabulary words. All sentences must begin with a capital letter and have proper end punctuation. Start each sentence on a new line. Number all sentences. Underline the vocabulary word. Make sure you have a proper heading with the date at the top of your paper.

Following Directions	Demonstrates Strength Each vocabulary word sentences has the vocabulary word identified by underlining the word.
Sentences are 10 or more words	Demonstrates Strength Each the sentence contains 10 words or more.
Vocabulary Word	Demonstrates Strength Student clearly demonstrates an understanding of the vocabulary word by using it correctly in a sentence and/or by using contest clues.
Conventions of Grammar	Demonstrates Strength Each vocabulary sentences has no errors in capitalization and/or end punctuation.
Picture Makes Sense	Demonstrates Strength Each vocabulary word has a colorful picture which depicts the meaning of the vocabulary word.
Definition	Demonstrates Strength Each vocabulary word has a clear definition that allows the reader to understand the meaning of the word.
Part of Speech	Demonstrates Strength The vocabulary word has in parenthesis the correct part of speech.
Syllables	Demonstrates Strength Each vocabulary word is correctly broken into syllables.
Spelling	Demonstrates Strength All words used, the vocabulary word, definitions and sentence, are spelled correctly.
Creativity	Demonstrates Strength The vocabulary classwork shows scholarly thought, creativity, and depth in meaning and interpretation.
