Persuasive Essay 
Student persuasive essay that uses facts to back up their argument. TEK-ELA 4.19 Students will write persuasive texts to influence the attitudes or actions of a specific audience on specific issues. 4.19A Students will write persuasive essays for appropriate audiences that establish a position and use supporting details.

Fair

The student uses some facts to support the argument. Sometimes, they use opinions instead of facts.
Good

The student bases all their arguments on facts that they have researched. The facts are reliable and are used to back up the argument that the student has made.
Organization

Poor

The student does not have the 5 paragraphs that were part of the directions.
Fair

The student has 5 paragraphs, but the paragraphs are organized in a way that make it harder to understand or less persuasive.
Good

The student has used 5 short paragraphs:
-P1-introduce his or her position on a topic
-P2, P3, and P4-give three arguments/reasons to back up their position
-P5-Sum up their main position on topic and wrap up their essay.
Introduction Paragraph

Poor

The student did not have the three parts of the introduction.
Fair

The student gave this or her position on the topic, but did not have an attention grabber. The student did not follow directions when writing the introduction paragraph.
Good

The student had the three parts of the introduction including:
-background information
-thesis statement
-3 arguments
Conclusion Paragraph

Poor

The student did not use the main idea to bring their paper to a close.
Fair

The student used the main idea to end the paper, but did not restate the ideas or wrap up their essay.
Good

The student restated the main ideas of their essay, and brought their paper to a natural close.
Grammar and Spelling & Word Choice

Poor

More than 5 spelling, capitalization, punctuation, or grammatical errors.

Ideas are never expressed using strong or carefully picked language.
Fair

Three to five spelling, capitalization, punctuation, or grammatical errors.

Ideas are sometimes expressed using strong and carefully picked language.
Good

Zero to two spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and grammatical errors.

Ideas are always expressed using strong and carefully picked language.
