CHMS 7th Grade Lab Report Scientific Writing

Use the "Scientific Writing Checklist for Lab Reports" to create your lab report. Each of the eight sections in the checklist will be evaluated to compile an overall 45% classwork/project grade. Use this rubric to help you critique your lab report so that you may get the highest score possible.

Question/Purpose 5 pts	Below Standard Purpose is absent or not written properly as a question.	Standard Purpose stated as a question but is not clearly focused on what was to be discovered.	Above Standard Purpose stated as a question and clearly explains what was to be discovered.
Procedure 20 pts	Below Standard Procedure is absent, needs more steps for the lab to be reliable, or contains incomplete sentences.	Standard Logical sequence with complete sentences but missing some steps from checklist. Explanation is absent that describes the single variable being tested.	Above Standard Written in complete sentences with no steps missing from checklist. At least one procedure diagram is present. Clear explanation is present of single variable being tested.
Results 10 pts	Below Standard Absent or contains incomplete sentences.	Standard Sentences are present but provide no clear explanation of data or do not make specific references to the data.	Above Standard Sentences provide clear explanation for the meaning of your data. Specific references are made to the data.
Writing Guidelines 15 pts	Below Standard Numerous problems exist with writing style, organization, formatting, scientific vocabulary or spelling/grammar.	Standard Minor problems exist with writing style, organization, formatting, scientific vocabulary or spelling/grammar.	Above Standard Well written, neatly organized & clearly formatted (or written). Scientific vocabulary present & used correctly. No spelling or grammatical errors. Scientific writing style is evident.
