Criteria for Paragraph

Topic Sentence	Poor The topic sentence does not introduce the topic. No controlling point about the topic is evident.	Fair Topic sentence introduces the topic, but does not give accurate and complete information.	Good Topic sentence creates interest and is fairly well developed.	Excellent Very well developed topic sentence. It engages the reader and creates interest.
Details/Examples	Poor Details/examples are either wrong or lacking. There is no dominant impression created in the paragraph.	Fair There are details/examples, but the details do not create a dominant impression that follows the story line.	Good Details/examples are clear and specific, but there are not enough of them to create a dominant impression that follows the story line.	Excellent Details/examples in the paragraph are clear and specific, and there are enough details that follows the story line.
Organization/Structure	Poor No discernable organization. Transitions are not present.	Fair Organization is clear. Some transitions are present, while others are either inappropriate or missing.	Good Logical progression of details. Transitions do not enhance the overall effectiveness of the paragraph. There is a clear beginning, middle, and end.	Excellent Logical progression of details with a clear beginnning, middle and end. The transitions are appropriate and used very effectively.
