Pulse & Apply Cuff

Find pt radial pulse.
Count the pulse for 1 full minute.
Apply the proper size BP cuff.
Determine how high cuff should be pumped up for BP reading.

Palpated the pulse point in the arm and applied the appropriate size cuff properly with the gauge in the front at the pulse point. Was not too lose or too tight.
Cuff Inflation & Blood Pressure

Inflate cuff to pre-determined amount.
Competently adjust the valve to inflate and deflate the cuff.

Needed several attempts to get the cuff inflated and left it up too long causing some pain.
Could not read the gauge properly.

Struggled with the valve and reading the gauge.

Handled the valve correctly and inflated the cuff just above where it needed to be. Let the air out slowly but not painfully slow.
Was able to read the gauge without hesitation.

Read the gauge with confidence.
Quickly deflated the cuff after getting BP reading.
Removed the cuff and informed the pt of the BP reading.
