Reading Journal Scoring rubric for the student's quarterly reading responses.
	Above Average 4 pts	Average 4 pts	Below Average 2 pts	Poor 0 pts
Weekly Responses Responses are recorded. One response every 3-4 Chapters	Above Average Responses are recorded and dated correctly with book title.	Average Responses are recorded and dated correctly with book title more than 75% of the time.	Below Average Responses are recorded and dated correctly with book title more than 50% of the time.	Poor Responses are recorded and dated with book title a minimum number of times.
Completion Journal entries have strong paragraphs consisting of a summary of the main events of the chapters read.	Above Average Journal entries have strong paragraphs consisting of a summary of the main events of the chapters read.	Average Journal entries have strong paragraphs consisting of a summary of the main events of the chapters read more than 75% of the time.	Below Average Journal entries have short paragraphs with a brief summary of the main events of the chapters read.	Poor Journal entries have not been completed at all.
Response Quality Responses are fully developed and on topic with questioning and thought analysis throughout.	Above Average Responses are fully developed and on topic with questioning and thought analysis.	Average Responses are acceptably developed and remain on-topic for the most part with questioning throughout.	Below Average Responses are underdeveloped and do not remain on-topic with little to no questioning.	Poor Response is critically underdeveloped and lacking in the key areas of basic English.
Connections Student attempts to make a text-to-self, text-to-text, or text-to-world connection at least 2 out of 4 times.	Above Average Student attempts to make a text-to-self, text-to-text, or text-to-world connection at least 75% of the time.
