Writing shows an understanding of the task. Prompt is answered sufficiently in a general manner. Writers provides a few specific details, but could have elaborated further in several places.

Writing shows clear understanding of task. Prompt is answered correctly with specific details (such as names, dates, titles, events, people).

Author has no thesis and is unfocused in his/her writing. Focus on the prompt is maintained through little of the writing. There is little to no evidence of the logical grouping of ideas and if present, an introduction and conclusion are minimal.
