LITERARY LETTER RUBRIC 
A literary letter following the assignment guidelines on the opposite side of this handout will be submitted upon completion. Check due dates! You will write a letter discussing the novel you read.

Student includes a summary of the "cut",
a copy of the cut within the letter, and the page number where this cut of the book is found.
Boday Paragraph #2 30 points

Student does not eengage the reader or fully express/explain thoughts on the cut of the book they chose to write about.

Student explains but does not engage the reader using vivid language and/or sophisticated vocabulary.
Excellent

Student discusses the cut in greater detail explaining why s/he chose this part of the novel. Student expresses feelings, ideas, personal eperiences, connections, questions, and possible speculative answers about this particular section of the novel.
Conclusion 20 points

Poor

Student does not make any connections or include a big idea about the novel s/he read.
Fair

Student briefly concludes the letter without a proper wrap up and without leaving an impression on the reader.
Excellent

Student creatively wraps up the letter with engaging, not repetetive senteces. Student connects the novel to another novel, movie, experience, lesson learned, etc. to convey an understanding of the novel.
