Poetry Portfolio

Poetry Portfolio Culminating Task: This project is the final assessment in the unit of Poetry. This is a multi-week task wherein students compile original poetry written in and out of class showcasing the use of myriad poetic devices. Students need to present the portfolio in its entirety creatively and decoratively. The poems must be a variety and have to include 5 of the following types: limerick; synonym; cinquain; comparison; diamante; haiku.

Originality	Level 1 Work appears to be thoughtless or rushed. Work is very repetitive and ideas seem cliched, impersonal, or unoriginal.	Level 2 The poems are creative, but don't demonstrate a variety of approaches.	Level 3 Poems are creative and thoughtful. They are carefully written, but development or craft could go further.	Level 4 Poems are creative and original. It is evident that the poet put thought into the words chosen and conveyed ideas and emotions in an innovative manner.
Literary Devices	Level 1 The poems did not include any literary devices such as imagery, metaphor, or rhyming pattern.	Level 2 The poems have some literary devices.	Level 3 The poems use imagery, metaphors and rhyming pattern which demonstrate creativity.	Level 4 The poems demonstrate a high degree of creativity through a varied and appropriate application of imagery, metaphors and rhyming pattern.
Requirements	Level 1 The portfolio does not meet the criteria required for the project.	Level 2 The portfolio is missing some of the required content, or the student didn't follow the required format.	Level 3 The portfolio is missing 1-2 of the required content or format.	Level 4 The portfolio meets 100% of the required content and format.
Attractiveness	Level 1 The poems and portfolio are messy or disorganized. Images are not related and do not enhance the project.	Level 2 The poems and portfolio show some thoughtfulness in their presentation. Images were not related, but were used to enhance the presentation.	Level 3 The poems and portfolio are attractive in terms of design, layout and neatness; the overall presentation is good.	Level 4 The portfolio is exceptionally attractive in terms of design, layout, and neatness. All images used are related to the poems and enhance the overall presentation.
Grammar & Punctuation	Level 1 There are numerous spelling, diction, or grammar errors.	Level 2 The poet's intended meaning is muddled by some spelling, diction, or grammar errors.	Level 3 Some spelling or grammar mistakes are evident, but do not diminish meaning.	Level 4 No spelling of grammar mistakes are evident.
