Model Math Word Problem for Practical Life Solutions
Students worked in groups to design word problems that modeled linear equations in order to solve a practical situation in a real world context. They then used the linear equation to find the solution to the problem. Developing the word problem prompted students to think critically about the connection between their study of math in school and their lives at home. Finally, students worked through and critiqued each other’s work. This allowed them to check for understanding within themselves and amongst one another.
