Plot advancement

The extent to which student uses the main events to advance the plot of the story.

Plot is clearly and skillfully depicted establishing a major conflict, leading to a believable climax and a clear resolution.

Plot is clearly depicted and establishes a major conflict, leading to a climax and a clear resolution.
Approaching

Plot is depicted by alluding to a conflict, leading to a climactic moment and hints at a resolution (May be somewhat abrupt and/or underdeveloped)

Plot is vague or unclear. The story fails to include key events that lead to a climax and/or resolution is unclear or missing

The extent to which student uses dialogue to tell the story.

The story includes a sufficient amount of dialogue that is natural, purposeful and is used to both move the story forward and provide background info. Dialogue is correctly punctuated.

The story includes dialogue that is natural, purposeful and is used to either move the story forward and provide background info. Dialogue is correctly punctuated.
Approaching

The story includes dialogue . Most dialogue is correctly punctuated and easy to read.
Inadequate

The story does not include a sufficient amount of dialogue. It is unnatural and awkward. Dialogue is not correctly punctuated.
Characterization

The extent to which student provides details to develop the character.
