Knowledge and Understanding	Beginning Step -shows little understanding of what a text connection is -ideas may be unconnected -gives few to no details -reasons using little to no ideas	Nearing Proficiency -shows some understanding of what a text connection is -some ideas may be connected -reasons using simple ideas -reasons lack some detail	Proficient -shows an understanding of what a text connection is -ideas are connected -reasons using ideas of some complexity -reasons include some detail	Advanced -shows a thorough understanding of what a text connection is -ideas are connected to the main idea of the text -reasons using complex ideas -reasons include detail
