Students tend to use repeated words. Sometimes it feels redundant to hear the same argument again and again that offers nothing new to the context.
Developing

The research paper contains no thoughts and sentence fragments that make the reader hard to digest and follow along. Sentence structures feel very basic and simplistic.
Thesis

Expert

Very well developed topic sentence that draws the reader to the thesis statement. The student has included the theme in the thesis to be discussed in the research paper, it engages the reader and creates interest.

Body Paragraphs

Expert

All body paragraphs contain the main idea and supporting details. Transition sentences are smooth from one body to the next. Key specific details from the text are supported and well-written quotes.
Advanced

All body paragraphs are present, but not all the main ideas are supported by the supporting details. Minor citation issues are relevant in the body paragraphs. Minor transition sentences flow issues.
Intermediate

All body paragraphs are shown but not very well developed. Transition sentences are not shown in each paragraph. There are no citations of quotes or evidence.
Developing

Paragraphs are misleading and often all over the place. There is at least no source of evidence to back up the claim.
Conclusion

Expert

The conclusion wraps up with fresh insight and in detail. Concluding sentences support the thesis and the argument and have the same tone, while gives the reader final thoughts on the paper.
Advanced

The students repeat the topic but do not show why the thesis statement matter. The conclusion felt rush and incomplete. There are no final thoughts relevant in the conclusion.
Intermediate

The conclusion merely copies the thesis without additional thought processes. The tone of the conclusion felt incomplete.
Developing

The conclusion is incomplete with nothing to offer. It has nothing to deal with the thesis in hand.
Coherent & Grammar

Expert

No more than 3 spelling errors. The paper structure is well structured with the right font such as Times New Roman or Arial and double spaced.
Advanced

There are more than 3 spelling errors, including formatting errors.
Intermediate

Spelling errors and grammar issues. This makes the paper hard to read.
Developing

Full with spelling and grammar issues making the paper unreadable.
