	Exemplary 10 pts	Proficient 9 pts	Developing 8 pts	Needs Improvement 7 pts
Following Directions	Exemplary All project directions were followed and exceeded project expectations.	Proficient Project directions were followed.	Developing Some of the project directions were followed but elements were missing.	Needs Improvement Project barely followed directions. There were three or more elements from the directions that are missing and it is clear student did not read and/or understand the task.
Focus	Exemplary Project demonstrates consistent focus and clear relationship between the ideas and/or events of the novel/play/story/ reading selection.	Proficient Project demonstrates a focus and a relationship between the ideas in the reading selection.	Developing Project attempts to focus on the relationship between elements in the reading selection but some of the elements/ connections are incorrect.	Needs Improvement Project is unfocused and the relationship between the reading selection and literary elements is unclear.
Organization	Exemplary Clear and consistent organization and logical progression of ideas that is unified and complete.	Proficient Project is, for the most part, organized and there is a progression of ideas.	Developing Project attempts organization but events may be out of sequence and/or missing.	Needs Improvement Little or no attempt at organization in the project. Several events and elements are out of order.
Support/Elaboration/Details	Exemplary Support and elaboration examines and/or explains the key elements of the play/novel with well-developed and specific details that demonstrate a deeper understanding of the characters, plot, and other literary elements.	Proficient Support and elaboration examines and/or explains elements of the play/novel with specific details that demonstrate an understanding of the literary elements.	Developing Details attempt to explain or support the literary elements but the details may be minor and unimportant and not critical to the reading selection. Does not demonstrate a full understanding of the reading selection.	Needs Improvement Details are minor and do not effectively support the reading selection or demonstrate a full understanding of the text.
