Proficient Student provides a broad introduction to the topic, establishes a predictable opinion and states generally how they will support that opinion in the body of their essay.	Excellent Student provides a consise introduction to the topic, establishes a clear, focused opinion and states precisely how they will support that opinion in the body of their essay.
Reasons and Support	Insufficient Reasons are weak and insufficient support is given. Any examples given have been poorly developed, with little or no explanation provided.	Satisfactory Reasons are adequate and satisfactory support is given. The examples given to support the reasons may be weak, or the student may not have explained how the examples support their reasons.	Proficient Reasons are strong and good support is given by providing solid examples from the sources that support the reasons presented.	Excellent Reasons are thought provoking.
