Tone Quality/ Breath Support

Mastery

Singer exhibits resonance and vibrato (where appropriate). Tone is beautiful and well supported across ranges; nearing professional caliber performance. Breath is controlled and in the proper places.
Proficient

Resonance and desirable tone quality are generally produced. Vibrato may or may not be in evidence or improperly used. Some "breathiness" may be evident and registers are inconsistent. Student occasionally does not support the tone to the end of the phrases.
Developing

Tone quality lacks resonance and support. Breathiness is common and singer lacks consistency across registers. Student occassionally supports the tone to the end of the phrases.
Basic

Tone is weak, but student shows effort. Student rarely breathes properly. Performance lacks breath support of the tone.
Rhythm/Pitches

Mastery

All rhythms and pitches are performed correctly.
Proficient

Most rhythms and pitches are performed correctly. A few minor slips (1-2) but student is able to self-correct and make immediate adjustments without detracting from the overall performance.
Developing

Numerous errors in rhythm and pitch are present enough to disrupt the flow of performance. Little to no effort to self-correct. Student may be out of phase with the accompaniment and unable to adjust.
Basic

More practice is needed.
Musicianship

Mastery

Singer exhibits a high degree of artistry, (nuance) observing dynamics, phrasing and performing expressively
Proficient

Singer observes most dynamics and phrasing, but may lack artistry and expression at times.
Developing

Student does not observe most dynamics or phrasing. Overall performance lacks expression.
Basic

No evidence of dynamics, nuance or phrasing performed.
Intonation

Mastery

Accurate intonation with correct breath support in all ranges and registers. Minor pitch adjustments are made instantly.
Proficient

Mostly accurate intonation and breath support with maybe a few minor problems. Student is able to make corrections.
Developing

Singer has difficulty maintaining correct intonation and often performs flat or sharp throughout the test. Student attempts to make corrections. Breath support is lacking.
Basic

Student is able to match some of the notes sung by another student singing the same voice part
Diction

Mastery

Student articulates clearly and the text is easily understood. (All vowels and consonants are clearly formed)
Proficient

Student articulates the words somewhat clearly and most of the text is understood. (Most of the vowels and consonants are clearly formed, but a few consonants are missing.)
Developing

Student sometimes articulates the words, but the words of the text often lack clear begining and ending consonant sounds.
Basic

Student rarely articulates the words and the text is not intelligible.
