Physics Homework Rubric

Rubric for assessing a combination of effort and correctness. I will choose 5 problems at random, from the entire assignment, to grade for correctness. The rest of the rubric applies to the entire problem set.

Assignment Completeness	EXCELLENT All items attempted.	GOOD 90% of items attempted.	AVERAGE At least 3/4 of items attempted.	FAIR At least 1/2 of the items attempted.	POOR Less than 1/2 of all items attempted.
Neatness	EXCELLENT Name is on the paper. Writing is legible, items are in order, the paper is exceptionally neat, orderly and presentable. Answers are clearly circled.	GOOD Name is on the paper. Writing is legible, items are in order, paper is generally neat.	AVERAGE Name is on the paper. Writing is not legible in places, some items are our of order, paper is generally messy or stapled backwards.	FAIR Name on paper, but writing is not legible, items are out of order, paper is generally messy or stapled backwards.	POOR Nothing turned in OR no name on paper.
Shows Work	EXCELLENT Shows all work done, step by step.	GOOD Student shows most of his/her problem-solving steps.	AVERAGE Shows most of the step-by-step work done.	FAIR Shows minimal step-by-step work done.	POOR No step-by-step work shown.
Accuracy	EXCELLENT All problems chosen for grading are correct.	GOOD 4 of the 5 problems chosen for grading are correct.	AVERAGE 3 of the 5 problems chosen for grading are correct.	FAIR 2 of the 5 problems chosen for grading are correct.	POOR 1 or none of the problems chosen for grading are correct.
Requirements	EXCELLENT Goes beyond the requirements of all 5 problems, including a diagram or sketch.	GOOD Meets the requirements for 4 of the 5 problems, including a diagram or sketch.
