Counseling skills related to interviewing, joining, assessment, conceptualization, therapeutic relationship, therapeutic rationale, termination, and referral processes are less than would be expected at this stage of development.

Demonstrates exceptional understanding of client support structures, systems, community resources, spiritual resources, relational resources and is able to consistently integrate these components in therapy. A clear systemic thinker with deep understanding of micro, macro and mezzo systems in which clients exist

Demonstrates developmentally appropriate understanding of client support structures, systems, community resources, spiritual resources, relational resources and related interventions. Able to conceptualize the client dynamics within a systemic framework.

Demonstrates limited understanding of client support structures, systems, community resources, spiritual resources, relational resources and related interventions. Systemic insights into client dynamics limited and somewhat simplistic.

Demonstrates a clear understanding of theory and how it to apply it in therapy. Able to maintain theoretical consistency with a variety of clients. Successfully and continually applies developmental and wellness approaches when working with individuals, couples, families and other systems.

Demonstrates understanding and adherence of ethical standards for therapists. Proactively and critically explores legal issues, values and professional standards as they are integrated into the counseling practice. Understands when to seek supervision related to ethical concerns or questions.

Demonstrates minimal understanding of professional ethical standards. Addresses ethical issues only as they arise with minimal critical evaluation of current practice. Asks few questions in supervision related to ethics.

Demonstrates exceptional understanding of effective therapist characteristics and how the person of the therapist impacts the therapeutic relationship. Clearly understands limitations of self, areas of transference, countertransference in therapy and is able to determine when to seek supervision and/or make appropriate referrals. Demonstrates the ability to proactively form professional and collaborative relationships those professionals with whom he or she has regular contact.

Demonstrates understanding of effective therapist characteristics and how the person of the therapist impacts the therapeutic relationship. Has basic understanding of limitations of self, areas of transference, countertransference in therapy and is able to determine when to seek supervision and/or make appropriate referrals. With minimal prompting demonstrates the ability to form professional and collaborative relationships with those professionals with whom he or she has regular contact.

Demonstrates limited insight into self as therapist and how that affects the theraputic relationship. Minimally aware of personal characterisitics of self and role of self as therapist. Exhibits limited insight into persoanl areas of transference, countertransference in therapy. Has considerable difficulty forming professional and collaborative relationships with peers, supervisors, and those professionals with whom he or she has regular contact.
