Understanding of reading selection	Poor Appears to have minimal understanding of the reading selection	Fair Appears to have some understanding of the reading selection, but does not stay focused in paper	Good Appears to have complete understanding of the reading selection and keeps the paper focused
Sentence Structure	Poor Sentence structure is very short and choppy with few complex thoughts	Fair Sentence structure contains some complex sentences, but most are still too short.	Good Sentences are complex and add quality understanding to the paper
Identification of Setting	Poor Does not correctly identify setting	Fair Identifies setting, but ideas and opinions are not supported in paper	Good Adequately identifies and understands setting
Organization of Thoughts	Poor Lacks organization and/or includes digressions	Fair Weak organization of thoughts	Good Thoughts are adequately organized in paper
