Meets Standards

Student generally had logical and appropriate sequencing of ideas. Related ideas generally grouped together. Transitions link parts of the paper.
Exceeds standards

Student had logical and appropriate sequencing of ideas. Introduction engages and sets the stage, and conclusion provides a sense of closure. Transitions link the paragraphs and sentences.
Style

Needs Improvement

Word choice is inaccurate or inappropriate to the opinion genre. Little or no attention to the audience. Writer's voice is not present.
Meets Standards

Language and tone are generally consistent. Some variation in sentence length and structure. May include some opinion specific strategies.
Exceeds standards

Student used appropriate word choice and sentence variety that was appropriate to the opinion writing. Certain tone was set and used throughout the essay.
Conventions

Frequent sentence fragments, run-ons, and incorrect sentences. Errors interfere with the meaning of the essay. End punctuation incorrect or lacking.
