Level Four

Poem is creative and original. It is evident the poet put thought into his/her words and was innovative in conveying his/her ideas and emotions.
Level Three

Poem is thoughtful and creative. A couple of phrases or ideas may be revisited, but the overall product is carefully written.
Level Two

The poem is creative, but appears to be rushed.
Level One

Poem lacks clarity and appears rushed. Work is repetitive and ideas are impersonal or lack originality.

Poem is complete and follows its intended form.
Level Three

Poem is mostly written in the proper form.
Level Two

Poem is somewhat written in the proper form.
Level One

Poem is not written in the proper form.
Grammar, punctuation, line breaks

Level Four

Proper use of British English spelling and grammar is employed consistently throughout the poem.
Level Three

A couple of spelling or grammar mistakes are evident, but do not diminish the meaning of the poem.

The poet's intended meaning is inhibited by several spelling or grammar errors.
Level One

There are numerous spelling or grammar errors, making the poem difficult to understand.
Image/Appeal

Level Four

The image is exceptionally attractive in terms of design, layout and neatness. The pictures are appropriate and add interest to the poem. Additional creative effort is evident.
Level Three

The image is attractive in terms of design, layout, and neatness. The pictures appropriately represent identity.
Level Two

The image is acceptably attractive though it may lack neatness. The pictures are somewhat appropriate in depicting identity.
Level One

The image is poorly designed. The illustration is not appropriate for the poem.
Writing Process

Level Four

Student clearly utilizes prewriting, drafting, revising, and editing in writing the piece.
Level Three

Student shows some evidence of either prewriting, drafting, revising, and editing but leaves a step out.
Level Two

Student shows very little evidence of prewriting, drafting, revising, and editing. Leaves more than 1 step out.
Level One

Student shows no evidence of prewriting, drafting, revising, and editing.
