Margin Work-Char. Dev ELACC11RL3

I use marks to identify the introduction of a character, changes to his/her attitudes or beliefs, situations that reflect the life of JM Barrie, and anything else that strikes my attention.

Does NOT Meet

I used some of the techniques for character development, but was inconsistent throughout the annotation process.
PARTIALLY Meets

I used most of the techniques for character development, but missed major transitions as well as minor characters.
MEETS

I adequately kept with characters and their progression throughout the novel. My character development goes beyond surface level and reflect the life of the author
EXCEEDS

Each character annotation not only comments on the importance of the character, but it goes beyond the passage to show interaction with the entire text.
Margin Work-Vocab ELACC11RL4

My comments accomplish the following purposes: Defining unfamiliar words
Paraphrasing a particularly challenging phrase or sentence
Identifying the connotative meaning of a word

Does NOT Meet

I chose a few words, and I may even define them, but the definitions don't seem to have helped me to understand the phrase or text.
PARTIALLY Meets

I choose several words and define them, but I do not seem to be able to connect the meaning to the text.
MEETS

I actively choose words that jump out to me. If I don't know them, I define them; if I know them, but am confused as to how they are used in the sentence, I use the context to infer meaning.
EXCEEDS

I understand that the author chooses specific words with multiple layers of meaning and I can demonstrate how those meanings add depth to the text through defining those terms and applying them.
Margin Work-Lit Device ELACC11RL2

My comments accomplish the following purposes:
Identifying literary devices
Asking questions
Retelling
Recording delight/ confusion
Visualizing
Predicting
Evaluating/Personal Connection
Inferring

Does NOT Meet

My comments show that I attempted only a few of the reading comprehension strategies, but primarily focus on literary elements.
PARTIALLY Meets

My comments show that I attempted most of the strategies. I make a short prediction and summarize most chapters, I find minor literary elements, and I sometimes make notes in the margins.
MEETS

My comments accomplish each of the reading strategies. Not only do I use these reading strategies, I also apply them to the life of the author and make deeper connections.
EXCEEDS

My comments show mastery of each of the reading strategies. I go beyond the required and try to place emphasis on the author's purpose within the text.
Commentary ELACC11RL9

I identified and commented on the title of the novel, the author, the time period, and the structure of the text.

Does NOT Meet

I did not complete the pre-reading commentary, and I had little to no commentary throughout the novel.
PARTIALLY Meets

My pre-reading commentary reflects my personal views of the text but does not make predictions nor relate to the time period or other known factors, while my commentary throughout the novel is inconclusive.
MEETS

My pre-reading commentary is clear and original. It projects creativeness and insight. I also continue to add commentary throughout the novel.
EXCEEDS

My overall commentary shows reflection and thought-provoking anaylsis.
