Animal Research Project

Students will research and read about an animal of their choice and then create an informational book about their animal, followed by a presentation of their book.

Rough Draft of Book Students create a rough draft of each paragraph needed on a piece of lined paper	Excellent Rough draft includes a well developed and thought out paragraph of each topic. Sentences are rich in text and information	Good Each paragraph is put together and sentences cover the major topics listed in the graphic organizer.	Fair Each paragraph is present but information may need to be reordered in order to be clearer to the reader	Poor Minimal information is presented. Sentences are out of order or not present.
Final Book Picture book created and typed paragraphs	Excellent Book is put together neatly presented in good shape. Pictures are either drawn or glued in and match topics written about. No grammatical errors are present.	Good Book is completed and turned in. Pictures are either drawn or glued in the book. Less than 3 grammatical errors are present.	Fair Book is completed and turned in. Pictures are either drawn or glued in. More than 5 grammatical errors are present.	Poor Book is not complete or very messy. Pictures are not present and there are more than 5 grammatical errors.
Presentation	Excellent Student has full understanding of material and topic. They are fluent in their presentation and have clearly put time into the topic and task	Good Student has knowledge of topics that they are presenting. They have practiced reading the material and can read the material presented.	Fair Student has some knowledge of the topic. They able to read through the book but have not spent much time practicing.	Poor Student has little to no knowledge of the topic and cannot explain the ideas that they have put in the book, or they do not present.
Classification Animal has a classifcation of kingdom	Excellent Classifcation is labeled and there is a clear, detailed explanation as to why they fit in that classification.	Good Classification is labeled and there is 1 reason why they fit there	Fair Classification is labeled	Poor Classification is not present
