Preschool Writing Rubric

Students will have to write their name and write the letters of the alphabet as well as draw a picture of themselve.

Preschool Writing Rubric

Writing Name	Mastery The student can print first and last name using a combination of upper and lower case lettering.	More Developing The student can print his/her first name legibly using correct upper and lower case lettering.	Demonstrating The student can effectively print his/her first name using a combination of upper and lower case lettering. Writing is Left to right.	Developing The student can print all of the letters in his/her name but the ordering of the letters is mixed up. Letters might be reversed or upside down.	Areas for improvement The student is beginning to show lines and curves that look like some of the letters in their name.	Beginning The child uses lines, scribbles,squiggles,and curves.
Picture Content	Mastery The student can draw a picture of themself and the detail and coloring is excellent.	More Developing The student can draw a picture of himself/herself and the detail of the drawing is good.	Demonstrating The student can draw a recognizable picture of himself/herself and the detail and color of the picture is excellent. (eyes, ears, hair, etc.)	Developing The student can draw a picture of himself/herself but includes little detail and parts of the body.	Areas for improvement The student only draws a circle with two sticks for arms or less detail.	Beginning The student draw with scribbles.
Writing Letters	Mastery The student can write both upper and lower case letters in the alphabet.	More Developing The student can write 15 or more letters of the alphabet.	Demonstrating The student can write 9-15 letters of the alphabet.	Developing The student can write 1- 8 letters in the alphabet in uppercase.	Areas for improvement The student is learning to recognize and write a few letters of the alphabet.	Beginning The student is beginning to make lines and curves to represent letters.
