Background	Needs work Provides little background information about the topic or information does not match the question.	Good Provides adequate or some information to set the background of essay question.	Explemplary Provides a good deal of relevant information about the question topic.
Deveolopment	Needs work Introduction lacks the neccessary development and plan of attack	Good Introduction somewhat develops the main ideas and provides reader with a plan of attack	Explemplary Introduction thoroughly develops the main idea and contains a clear plan of attack for thesis.
Thesis	Needs work Thesis does not directly or adequately answer the question.	Good Thesis adequately answers the question but can little analysis.	Explemplary Thesis adequately answers the question and contains analysis.
