Topic Sentence	Excellent- A The topic sentence is the first sentence in the paragraph. It is a clear statement of the main idea of the paragraph content.	Good- B The topic sentence gives some clarity of the overall main idea of the sentences present.	Fair-C The topic sentence gives little evidence of a main idea connecting to the other sentences.	Needs attention- D There is no topic sentence presented in the paragraph.
Supporting Details	Excellent- A Topic is supported by three reasons and shows 2 examples for each reason.	Good- B Topic is supported by three reasons, only one example for each reason.	Fair-C Topic is supported by more than one or two reasons and one example for each reason	Needs attention- D There is a slight attempt at supporting details.
Persuasion/Reasoning	Excellent- A All supporting details include persuasive language that explains the reasoning behind the position in the topic sentence.	Good- B Two of the supporting details include persuasive language that explains the reasoning behind the position in the topic sentence.
