Hook/exposition 4 pts Student uses a hook to grasp the reader's interest.	Well Developed Exposition is well developed and provides background information about the character(s) or setting. In addition, the hook grasps the reader's interest.	Developed Provides an exposition that provides some background information about the character(s) or setting. The hook somewhat grasps the reader's interest.	Developing Provides an exposition that provides very little background information about the character(s) or setting. The hook attempts, but fails, to grasps the reader's interest.	Emergent Fails to provide an exposition that provides some background information about the character(s) or setting or a hook to grasp the reader's interest.
Conflict 4 pts Student establishes a clear conflict early in the story.	Well Developed Conflict is clearly depicted in the story and the story is developed around the conflict.
