iRubric: Restaurant Review Rubric

There are facts about the restaurant but the style is bland because of weak word choice and no use of metaphor. Verbs include words such as "like" and "enjoy." There are too many generic expressions of praise: "The spicy meatballs were really great, and they are a favorite of everybody who comes here."

There are all the same issues as in a 1, but small parts of the review are written on the level of a 3 or 4.

The author uses comparisons to describe the taste of the food and ambiance of the restaurant. "The rainbow carrots, poised like rocket ships on the plate..." "Tasting the buttery croissants is as comforting as snuggling under the warmest blanket at grandma's house."

The author correctly uses some surprising adjectives and verbs

The beginning of the review draws the reader in.

A 4 does all the things a 3 does. The difference is in the level of consistency. There are no parts that are on the level of a 1.
