Scoring Guide For Initial Postings & Responses to Peers' Initial Postings

Critical Thinking 40 % Applies critical thinking skills in addressing discussion question.	Proficient Demonstrates good critical thinking skills through analysis of relevant theories and research. The literature and data are used to create a coherent posting; however 1-2 minor gaps are present.	Basic Makes reference to and demonstrates understanding of some key principles. Omits 1-2 of the relevant theories, research literature, and data. The literature and datat used create a coherent argument; however, there are some major gaps present.	Unsatisfactory Contains no reference to key principles; if key principles are present, there is no evidence that the learner understood principles, or key principles are not integrated in the response.
Application of Concepts 30 % Demonstates personal application of concepts.	Proficient Refers to personal and/or examples that relate to the relevant theories and/or research.	Basic Refers to personal and/or professional examples, but is not well integrated in the response.	Unsatisfactory Contains no reference to personal and/or professional examples.
Grad Level Composition 30 % Reflects graduate level composition skills.	Proficient Language is comprehensible but there are a 1-2 passages that are difficult to understand. The organization is generally good.	Basic Is adequately written, but may use 1-2 terms incorrectly; may need to be read two or more times to be understood.	Unsatisfactory Is poorly written; terms are used incorrectly; cannot comprehend learners' ideas after repeated readings.
