Reading log	Poor/None There was no reading log provided.	Below Average The student had an incomplete reading log.	Average The student did not keep an accurate account of in-class readings but did record dates for reading of the entire book.	Above Average The student completed the reading log for all in-class readings but did not include outside readings.	Superior The reading log was filled out correctly for all days of in-class reading and for outside readings.
Poster	Poor/None No one will receive zero in this area.	Below Average The student used something other than poster board, and it was smaller than required.	Average The student used poster board as instructed, but it was a little smaller in size than required.	Above Average The student used something other than poster board, but it was an acceptable size.	Superior The student used a piece of poster board as instructed, and it was the correct size or larger.
Reading and Pictures

In-class reading	Poor/None The student never brought his/her novel to class and usually wasted time by talking, sleeping, drawing, etc.	Below Average The student rarely brought his/her book to class and had to be called on numerous times for not reading during the allotted time.	Average There were numerous times that the student did not bring his/her book to class, and he/she had to be called on a few times for not reading during the allotted time.	Above Average The student did not bring his/her book to class a few days but did read during the allotted time.	Superior The student had his/her novel and read the entire time that students were allotted for reading.
Words and Pictures	Poor/None No one will receive a zero in this area. I will not accept projects without these.	Below Average The poster contains some pictures and words but very few and/or almost all of the pictures represent the same event/aspect of the novel.	Average The poster was full of pictures and/or words, but they are all from the computer or are from magazines but do not represent various different things from the novel.	Above Average The student used a variety of pictures and words that represent various events/aspects of the story, but there was a little too much space showing on the poster.	Superior The student used a good variety of pictures and words from magazines or newspapers with very few computer pictures and had the majority of the poster covered. Also, there were various events and aspects of the novel represented.

Presentation	Poor The student provided very little detail and did not follow presentation guidelines.	Below Average The student needed to provide more detail about the novel and struggled quite a bit with presentation guidelines.	Average The student provided excellent detail but struggled a lot with presentations guidelines. OR The student did well with presentation guidelines but did not provide a lot of detail about the novel.	Above Average The student provided excellent detail but struggled a little with presentation guidelines.	Superior The student provided excellent detail and followed all guidelines for presenting with very few mistakes.

Above Average The summary gives excellent details about the story and is typed but contains numerous errors in grammar and mechanics.	Superior The summary gives excellent details about the story and is typed with minimal grammatical and mechanical errors.
