Originality and Concept	Beginning Work appears to be thoughtless or rushed. Work is very repetitive and ideas seem unoriginal.	Developing The poems are creative, but don't demonstrate a variety of approaches.	Established Poems are creative and thoughtful. They are carefully written, but development or craft could go further.	Excelling Poems are creative and original. It is evident that the poet put thought into their words and innovatively conveyed their ideas and emotions.
Literary Devices/Figurative language	Beginning The poems did not include any literary devices such as imagery, sound effects and rhyming pattern. No figurative language was used such as simile, metaphor.	Developing The poems use some literary devices and figurative language.	Established The poem incorporates several literary devices and figurative language which demonstrate creativity.	Excelling The poem demonstrates varied and appropriate application of literary devices and figurative language discussed in class.
