Colonial Region Presentaion Project 
Students are placed in cooperative groups and randomly pick one of three topics: New England Colonies, Middle Colonies, Southern Colonies. Students use in class research time as well as homework to create a PowerPoint style presentation that represents their Colonial Colony group of the topics addressed in the Chapter 3 of their text.

Google Slides/PowerPoint

Create a Slide presentation about the chosen colony group. Minimum of eight slides in the presentation. Slides are clear and easily read from a distance with an appropriate font, background, color, and illustrations.

Low Performance

Slide presentation has little or no flow within the topic. Little or no research is demonstrated on the topic. Evident textbook was not used. Difficult to read.
At or Below Average

Information from the text book is missing in two of the colonies listed and/or have incorrect information presented. Some issues with fonts, transitions,
At or Above Average

Demonstrated content from the book and at least three topics had internet research information used within the slide presentation. Fonts, backgrounds, content are appropriate. Utilized students own words in the content presented.
Exemplary Performance

Demonstration of an outstanding presentation. Addressed not only book content but filled in missing information for the topics with information researched from the internet. Fonts, backgrounds, content, and extra effort is demonstrated in the presentation
Name, Date and Purpose of Colony

Identifies the date of the colony being established and why the colony was created.

Low Performance

Only two colonies have correct creation date and purpose for establishing the colony.
At or Below Average

Three to Four colonies for the region have correct creation date but two to three have the wrong purpose for establishing the colony.
At or Above Average

Three to Four colonies for the region have the correct creation date but one of the purpose for establishing the colony is incorrect.
Exemplary Performance

All colonies for region have correct creation date, and the correct purpose for establishing the colony.
Type of colony and Key persons

Identify the type of colony: joint-stock, proprietary or royal and the key people for the colony

Low Performance

Only two colonies have correct type and key people with the correct significance.
At or Below Average

Identified two to three colonies types correctly but did not have all the key people or their correct significance.
At or Above Average

Identified three of four types of colonies correctly and for three of the four colonies identified the key people and their significance.
Exemplary Performance

Identified the correct type of colony and all key people and explained the significance of all the key people.
Government

Identified the correct information about the government for the colony.

Low Performance

Identified colonies governments for only one to two colonies correctly

Identified two to three colonies governments correctly.
At or Above Average

Identified three of four colonies governments correctly.

Identified the correct type of government for all the colonies in the region.

Identified the key raw materials/resources the colony produced. Identified the type of farming or industry the colony performed.

Students took 5 minutes or less to present their material. Students seemed confused and did not know their material.
At or Above Average

Students took over 5 minutes to present their material. Students were a bit unsure and had quite a few cued words to assist their presentation.
Exemplary Performance

Students presented all material in over 5 minutes. No issues with cued words and students knew their material they researched and presented.
