6th Grade Band Rhythmic Reading Assessment 6th Grade Band Level 1 Sight Reading Assessment 6th graders will sightread a 4 measure exercise using only the first 5 notes of the concert Bb major scale. Rhythms used include quarter notes, eighth notes in sets of two and sixteenth notes in sets of four. Steady Beat	1 Student is NOT ABLE to play the selected exercise with a steady beat at this time. There are 7 or more hesitations or pauses in the beat.	2 Student SOMETIMES plays with a steady beat. The steady beat mistakes take away from the overall performance. There are no more than 4-6 hesitations or pauses in the beat.	3 Student MOSTLY plays with a steady beat. The steady beat mistakes do not take away from the overall performance. There are no more than 1-3 hesitations or pauses in the beat.	4 Student ALWAYS plays with a steady beat. It is smooth and there are no hesitations or pauses in the beat.
Rhythm	1 Student is NOT ABLE to play rhythms accurately at this time. There are 7 or more rhythmic mistakes. Rhythms used: quarter notes, eighth notes in sets of two and sixteenth notes in sets of four	2 Student SOMETIMES plays the rhythms accurately. The rhythm mistakes DID take away from the overall performance. There are 4-6 rhythmic mistakes.
