Alienation and Character Analysis

Target

Students earn target when they directly describe alienation on their body biography. They must also use their biography to show how the character contributes to this theme in the text. Use of quotes, colors, symbols, and pictures will earn on target evaluation.
Acceptable

Students directly state what alienation is and how it relates to their character. They may allude to how this theme functions in the book or have a section of their character that lacks artifacts. Use of some quotes, colors, symbols, and pictures is evident but not all are present.
Unacceptable

When students earn unacceptable they do not address the theme of alienation or have a poor definition of it. They may have some pictures or colors on their biography but their character remains mostly bare of artifacts.
Textual Evidence

Target

To earn a target evaluation students pull directly from the text - both summary and quotations from their character and other characters to support their character's development. Some inferences are also found and appropriate for their particular character. Evidence is aligned to the character's different parts. Page numbers are listed for almost all artifacts.
Acceptable

To earn an evaluation of acceptable students must provide enough textual evidence to support their character's biography. Mostly summary and inferences are used with few direct quotes from the text. Almost all of the evidence is appropriately aligned to the character's different parts. Some page numbers are given for artifacts.
Unacceptable

To earn an evaluation of unacceptable students describe the character in their own words or not at all. There are no symbols, quotes, or summaries that relate to the text. Textual support is lacking or not present, as are page numbers for these artifacts.
Organization and Collaboration

Target

To receive a target evaluation student work is done collaboratively with much discussion, on task behaviors, and agreements are made. The body biography itself is very neat and the text is clear and legible. It is easy to tell what certain symbols are on the biographies and how they relate to the character's different parts.
Acceptable

To earn an acceptable evaluation students can make a few mistakes in spelling or have some parts of the biography that are difficult to read. Otherwise, the organization is easy to follow and for the most part the work is clear and concise. During collaboration students stayed mostly on task, had some disagreements about textual support or their character and were able to resolve their conflicts.
Unacceptable

To earn an evaluation of unacceptable students presented a poor quality product that shows little time or effort. The overall product is messy, illegible, and is not aligned to their specific character. Collaboration, conflict resolution, and discussion were mostly lacking or not present at all during the allotted time given to students.
