Segmentation

I will say a word. Student will break it up into its sound parts. If I said mop, student says /m/ /o/ /p/. Say the word naturally. Have students repeat the word, and then give each sound. Underline letters to show students' answers.

Isolation of initial phoneme

I will say a word. The student tells me the first sound he or she hears in the word. Say the word clearly. Write the letter,(grapheme) of the sound, (phoneme) your student says.

Unable to identify/ name sounds, (phoneme) at the beginning, of words with at least 60% accuracy.
Fair

Correctly identifies isolated sounds, (phoneme) within words with at least 60% accuracy.

Blending Phonemes

I will break up the word into all of its sound parts. The student will blend it together to tell me the whole word. Ex.) What word is this? /d/ /o/ /g/, make sure to pause between each sound. The answer is dog. Put a check for correct answers.

Unable to orally blend phonemes within words with at least 60% accuracy.

Orally blend phonemes correctly within words with at least 60% accuracy,
Good

Orally blend phonemes of spoken words correctly with 100% accuracy.
Segmenting Phonemes

I say a word. The student will break it up into its sound parts. Have students repeat the word, and then give each sound. Underline the letters to show students' answers.

Unable to orally segment phonemes to the beginning, middle, or ends of words with at least 60% accuracy.

Correctly segments sound in words with at least 60% accuracy
Good

Correctly segments sound in spoken words with 100% accuracy.
Rhyming

I will say two words. The student will repeat the words, then tell me if those words rhyme by saying yes or no. Students' responses are circled.

Unable to identify if two words rhyme with at least 60% accuracy.
Fair

Correctly identifies if two words rhyme with at least 60% accuracy.
Good

Correctly identifies rhyme or no rhyme between two words with 100% accuracy.
Syllables

I will say a word. YOu will take the word apart by clapping or jumping to the syllables in that word.

Poor

Unable to separate sounds between 1, 2, and 3 syllables with at least 60% accuracy.
Fair

Correctly separates sounds between 1,2, and 3 syllables with a least 60% accuracy.
Good

Correctly separates sounds between 1,2, and 3 syllables with 100% accuracy.
