Dress-Ups	Incomplete Student did not include dress-ups. -or- Student did not mark dress-ups.	Poor The student is missing many dress-ups, and did not follow the minimum rule.	Fair The student is missing a few dress-ups, but showed an effort to follow the minimum rule.	Good The student has satisfied the minimum rule and has at least one of each dress-up in each paragraph (for the most part).	Above and Beyond The student has more than one of each type of dress-up, has clever use of dress-ups, and/or attempts advanced techniques, such as doubles or invisibles, or decorations.
Sentence Openers	Incomplete Student did not use sentence openers. -or- Student did not mark sentence openers.	Poor The student is missing most sentence openers, and did not follow the minimum rule.	Fair The student has some sentence openers, but they are incorrectly used or do not satisfy the minimum rule.	Good Student satisfies the minimum rule and has one of each type of opener in each paragraph (for the most part). Student has at least one example of each opener somewhere in the piece.	Above and Beyond Student has several examples of each type of sentence opener, and uses them skillfully or frequently within the paragraph.
Report Organization	Incomplete Student has not organized the report	Poor Student shows little effort to organize the report into paragraphs.	Fair The report has an overall organization, but it may be ineffective or confused in parts.	Good Student organizes the report into an effective introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion.	Above and Beyond Student organization enhances reading and makes delivering the information more effective.
Content	Incomplete Student did not research the topic.	Poor Some facts are included from research, but there are too few or ineffective.	Fair Student has few facts, but they are clearly related to the topic and shows some research was done.	Good Student has acceptable information and facts about the topic, and shows that research was done.	Above and Beyond More than enough information was included. Clear effort and research was done.

Writing Process	Incomplete Student only has the final draft.	Poor The student is missing steps or made little effort to utilize the steps effectively. Good Student used every step of the writing process effectively - Keyword Outline, Drafting, Editing, Revising, and creating a Final Draft. All parts are completed satisfactorily.	Above and Beyond Student used every step of the writing process very effectively, showing effort at every step to use the process to make writing better.
Revising/Editing	Incomplete Student made little discernible effort to revise and/or edit writing.	Poor Student did not use the checklist, but some revising/editing was done.	Fair Student made some effort to revise and edit their writing, and used most of the checklist.	Good Student made an effort to revise and edit to make their writing better. Student used checklist.	Above and Beyond Student made a great effort (example: multiple re-writes) to make writing better. Student used checklist.
Topic/Clincher	Incomplete Student does not mark a topic/clincher	Poor Student uses the rule and marks a topic clincher, but does so incorrectly.	Fair Student makes an attempt to follow the rule, but may make some small mistakes.	Good Student repeats 2-3 key words in the beginning and end of each body paragraph, satisfying the topic/clincher rule.	Above and Beyond Student uses the Topic/Clincher in a clever way to make paragraphs more effective.
Decoration	Incomplete Student does not use decorations.	Poor Student attempts decorations, but they aren't used correctly.	Fair Student seems to include decorations, but they are not marked.	Good Student included three decorations in the piece. They are marked.	Above and Beyond Student includes more than three decorations in the piece. They are marked.
Formatting	Incomplete Student does not double-space.	Poor Student makes little attempt to format the piece correctly.	Fair Student makes an attempt to format correctly, but may make some mistakes.	Good Student formats piece following the guidelines for typing or handwriting. Piece is neat and legible and easy to read.	Above and Beyond Student goes above and beyond to present a piece that is both visually attractive and easy to read.
Grammar	Incomplete Student appears to make little or no effort to correct grammar, capitalization, or punctuation in the piece.	Poor Student makes many errors in capitalization, grammar, and punctuation that interfere with reading.	Fair Student makes errors in capitalization, grammar, and punctuation that often interfere with reading.	Good Student makes minimal errors in capitalization, grammar, and punctuation that rarely interfere with reading.	Above and Beyond Student makes almost no errors in capitalization, grammar, and punctuation that do not interfere with reading.
