General poetry rubric 
Students will create a poem following the guidelines of their chosen form of poetry. Objectives: 17e. Develop grade-appropriate compositions on student- or teacher-selected topics that include variety in sentence structure (ELA-2-M2) 18b. Develop grade-appropriate compositions by identifying and applying writing processes such as prewriting (e.g., brainstorming, researching, raising questions, generating graphic organizers) (ELA-2-M3) Grade Scale: 15-16 pts.= Advanced 14 pts.= Mastery 13 pts. = Basic 12 pts. = Approaching Basic 11 pts.= Unsatisfactory.

All poems need some kind of illustration or embellishment. Concrete poems, diamante poems, and biopoems should contain lots of color and imagery.

Poem has some color and illustrations have some detail.
Basic

Poem has few colors and few or no illustrations.
Approaching Basic

Poem has no color and no illustrations.
