Organization	Unsatisfactory -The order may appear jumbled or confused; "not shaped." -Transitions may be unclear and and do not aid in making the paper "flow." -Order is illogical and does not successfully convey the purpose of the paper. -Paragraphs may be incoherent.	Satisfactory -Some really smooth portions; others may need work -Transitions are somewhat clear but may be weak at times. -Order is somewhat logical, but a few aspects may seem out of place. -Paragraphs are somewhat coherent...	Excellent -Overall, the paper is clear and compelling. -Transitions are extremely clear and used at appropriate times. -Order is completely logical and helps the paper to flow. -Paragraphs are extremely coherent and fit well within the context of the paper.	Grade
Mechanics	Unsatisfactory -Numerous grammatical errors- does not appear that much time was spent editing. -Spelling errors are common. -Errors may hinder the audience's comprehension of the author's intended message.	Satisfactory -Grammar/Usage is somewhat consistent, needs polishing in some places -May contain more grammatical errors than a "3" but not enough to hinder the audience's comprehension of the text. -Spelling errors may be present but not frequent.	Excellent -Grammar/Usage is very consistent and shows control. -Very few or no spelling errors -Sentences make sense and fit well within the context of the paragraph/paper	Grade
Clarity	Unsatisfactory -Author seems unclear about his/her ideas. -Mostly simple sentences with little to no sentence variation. -Sentences do not flow, causing the author's ideas to be vague. -Tone is not conveyed successfully.	Satisfactory -Most ideas are focused, but a few may need to be more clear or specific. -Not as much sentence variation as a "3." -Most sentences flow, but some places may need to be edited for fluency. -Tone may not be extremely clear.	Excellent -Ideas and content are focused, clear, and specific. -Sentences are varied yet seem natural. -Exceptional sentence fluency. -The tone that is conveyed makes sense in the context of the paper. Creativity	Unsatisfactory -Title does not fit the story. -Ideas or content used are not original and/or do not succeed in creating a compelling piece of writing. -Vague details make the scenario hard to imagine.	Satisfactory -Title may not be very creative but does fit into the context of the story. -Ideas may not seem original or unique to the author. -Some places are very detailed and specific; others may need editing.	Excellent -Title is creative and unique, yet fits the context of the story. -Ideas and content are original. -Author is able to "show" what is happening instead of only "telling" about it. -Specific, in-depth details put the reader in the moment.	Grade
Language	Unsatisfactory -Many words do make sense in the sentence or in the context of the paper. -Reader may often ask, "What is meant by this?" -The same words may be repeated over and over throughout the paper.	Satisfactory -Word choice is mechanically correct for the most part but not very striking. -More "everyday" words are used instead of bolder, more memorable words. -The words do succeed in getting the message across but could have done a better job of capturing the reader's attention.	Excellent -The language used aids in making the paper compelling, keeps the audience hooked. -Word choice is extremely clear and accurate, fits the setting and the context. -Words are vivid, and they fit well into the paper. Meets Requirements	Unsatisfactory -Author did not adhere to the rules that were given to him/her. -Author did not adhere to the type of writing that he/she chose.	Satisfactory -Author may have made 1-2 minor mistakes, such as exceeding the appropriate length.	Excellent -Author adhered to the type of writing that he/she chose. -Author followed all rules that were given, including content and length.	Grade
