Treatment Planning Evaluation Spring 2012 
During the course of the case presentation student will be evaluated by clinical members of the faculty/staff in each of the seven domains listed below.

Counseling Skills

Exceeds Competency

Student demonstrated exceptional counseling skills related to interviewing, joining, assessment, conceptualization, therapeutic relationship, therapeutic rationale, termination, and referral processes at a higher developmental level than would be expected in most or all of these areas.
Meets Competency

Student demonstrated developmentally appropriate competency in counseling skills related to interviewing, joining, assessment, conceptualization, therapeutic relationship, therapeutic rationale, termination, during the presentation.
Below Competency

Counseling skills demonstrated related to interviewing, joining, assessment, conceptualization, therapeutic relationship, therapeutic rationale, termination, and referral processes were less than would be expected at this stage of development.
Treatment

Exceeds Competency

Demonstrated the ability to develop a treatment plan that evidenced insight, depth and offered a clear direction for therapy beyond what would be expected at this developmental level. Models or techniques selected for treatment clearly tied to the presenting issue/s and the student was able to articulate the rationale for interventions. Student able to articulate mechanics of change with his or her client and able to apply influence strategies effectively in therapy.
Meets Competency

Demonstrated an appropriate and effective treatment plan. Selected models or techniques that were generally consistent with a presenting issue/s. Demonstrated moderate understanding of the mechanics of the change process. Able to apply developmentally appropriate influence strategies.
Below Competency

Treament plan evidenced limited insight, depth and was somewhat superficial. Models and techniques were applied without clear understanding of how they related to clients presenting issue/s. Student partially able to apply influence strategies.
Client Systems

Exceeds Competency

Demonstrated exceptional understanding of client support structures, systems, community resources, spiritual resources, relational resources and was able to consistently integrate these components in therapy/presentation.A clear systemic orientation with deep understanding of micro, macro and mezzo systems in which client exists.
Meets Competency

Demonstrated developmentally appropriate understanding of client support structures, systems, community resources, spiritual resources, relational resources and related interventions. Able to conceptualize the client dynamics within a systemic framework.
Below Competency

Demonstrated limited understanding of client support structures, systems, community resources, spiritual resources, relational resources and related interventions. Systemic insights into client dynamics limited and somewhat simplistic.
Theory

Exceeds Competency

Demonstrated a clear understanding of theory and how it is applied in therapy. Able to maintain theoretical consistency with client/s. Applied developmental and wellness approaches when working with client/s.
Meets Competency

Demonstrated understanding of theory and theoretical consistency. Applied developmental and wellness approaches when working with client/s.
Below Competency

Demonstrated limited or simplistic understanding of theory and theoretical consistency. Minimal use of developmental and wellness approaches when working with client.
Ethics

Exceeds Competency

Demonstrated a deep understanding and adherence of professional ethical standards related to the case. Proactively addressed ethcial concerns or questions in supervision or consultation.
Meets Competency

Demonstrated understanding and adherence of ethical standards for therapists with client/s. Proactively sought to understand ethical dimensions within the case. Was able to seek supervision/consultation to address ethical issues.
Below Competency

Demonstrated minimal understanding of professional ethical standards. Addressed ethical issues only as they arose with minimal critical evaluation of ethical dimensions.
Diversity

Exceeds Competency

Demonstrated a deep respect for client/s and took an active effort to understand, appreciate and engage differences/diversity with client/s. Provided culturally appropriate counseling beyond what would be expected at this developmental level.
Meets Competency

Demonstrated a basic respect for client/s and displayed an active effort to understand, appreciate and engage differences/diversity with client/s. Provided developmentally appropriate, effective culturally appropriate counseling.
Below Competency

Demonstrated little insight into the multicultural components of therapy with this client/s.
Self of Therapist

Exceeds Competency

Deeply aware of personal characterisitics of self and role of self as therapist related to the case. Understands limitations of self and is able to determine when to seek supervision and/or make appropriate referrals.
Meets Competency

Demonstrated understanding of personal characterisitics of self and role of self as therapist related to the case. Understands basic limitations of self and is able to determine when to seek supervision and/or make appropriate referrals.
Below Competency

Demonstrated limited insight into self as therapist and how that affects the theraputic relationship relate to this case. Minimally aware of personal characterisitics of self and role of self as therapist.
