Writing Content
Planning	Beginning Writer does not show evidence of any planning.	Developing Writer completes most of the brainstorming activity and the essay map.	Secure Writer successfully plans by fully completing the brainstorming activity
Organization	Beginning Story does not have a clear beginning, middle, and ending. Event sequence is out of order.	Developing Story somewhat has a beginning, middle, and ending, but one or more parts might be missing or unclear. Event sequence is somewhat in order.	Secure Story has a clear beginning middle, and ending. Event sequence is in order.
Details	Beginning Writer does not include descriptive details in writing.	Developing Writer includes a few descriptive details in parts of the story.	Secure Writer includes a lot of descriptive details throughout the entire story.
Writing Mechanics
Spaces	Beginning No spaces.	Developing There are some spaces, but not always.	Secure There is a space between every word.
Spelling	Beginning Strings of letters or beginning and ending sounds. Student cannot read his/her own writing.	Developing Each word includes beginning and ending sounds and at least one vowel. Student can read his/her own writing.	Secure All Sight words are spelled correctly. Unknown words are spelled by stretching out the word. Teacher can read the majority or all of students' writing.
Capital Letters	Beginning Writing is all in capital or lower-case letters. If both are included, they are not in the correct places. Storyjumper
Voice Recordings	Beginning Storyjumper does not have any voice recordings.	Developing Storyjumper has some voice recordings, but recordings are not very clear or loud enough for listener to understand them.	Secure Storyjumper has several voice recordings that are clear and easy to understand.
Text/Visuals	Beginning Storyjumper does not have any visuals or text.	Developing Storyjumper has a few visuals and text.	Secure Story jumper has text or visuals on every page.
