Reflects Play	Exemplary The design reflects an accurate and easily defensible (based on the play) interpretation of the characters clothing.	Proficient The design reflects an accurate and somewhat defensible (based on the play) interpretation of the characters clothing.	Basic The design reflects a basic costume design that makes sense but the defense is not based on the play.	Minimal The costumes are not reflective of the characters wearing them.
Creativity	Exemplary Costumes have rich, attractive patterns that are both pleasing to the eye as well as functional.	Proficient Costumes use fairly attractive patterns and are relatively functional.	Basic Costumes are somewhat unappealing to the eye and are not very functional.	Minimal Costumes are unattractive, messy, and lack functionality.
Historical Accuracy	Exemplary Costumes are at least 90% historically accurate.	Proficient Costumes are 89-80% historically accurate.	Basic Costumes are 79-70% historically accurate.	Minimal Costumes are 69-60% historically accurate.
