Poetry Portfolio
Poetry Portfolio Culminating Task: This is an extended writing task wherein students create and compile original poetry written in class showcasing the use of myriad poetic devices. Students need to present the portfolio in its entirety (10-12 pieces) creatively and decoratively. The poems must be a variety and must include at least one the following types: limerick; ode; sonnet; haiku; and narrative. The poems must have at least 3 poetic devices in each.

All poems are creative and original. It is evident that the poet put thought into the words chosen and conveyed ideas and emotions in an innovative manner.

The poems have at least two poetic devices in each piece.

The poems have at least 3 poetic devices in each piece which demonstrate creativity, however lack variation.

The poems demonstrate varied and appropriate application of at least 3 poetic devices in each piece.

The portfolio is missing most of the required content, or the student didn't follow the required format.

The portfolio is missing 1-2 of the required content or format.

The portfolio meets 100% of the required content and format.
Presentation
Beginning
The pages of the portfolio are presented singularly with no type of binding. Portfolio is incomplete and/or contents have no particular order. Some pages are crumpled or torn. Stray marks are visible on many pages.
Developing
The pages of the portfolio are stapled together. The portfolio is fully complete, with contents showing order. Some page corners are turned up. Few stray marks are visible on pages.
Established
The portfolio is presented with a clasp (paper clip, etc.) fully complete, with contents well-ordered. Individual pages and smooth and unmarred.
Excelling
The portfolio is tastefully presented in a folder, fully complete, with contents well-ordered. Individual pages are smooth, crisp an unmarred.
Grammar & Punctuation
Beginning
There are numerous spelling, diction, or grammar errors that significantly detract from meaning.
Developing
The poet's intended meaning is muddled by some spelling, diction, or grammar errors.
Established
Where appropriate, some spelling, diction or grammar mistakes are evident, but do not diminish meaning.
Excelling
Where appropriate, proper use of modern English spelling, diction, and grammar are employed consistently throughout portfolio.
