Persuasive Essay 
Student persuasive essay that uses facts to back up their argument. TEK-ELA 4.19 Students will write persuasive texts to influence the attitudes or actions of a specific audience on specific issues. 4.19A Students will write persuasive essays for appropriate audiences that establish a position and use supporting details.

The student does have the 5 paragraphs but they did not follow the directions.
Developing

The student has the 5 paragraphs, but some arguments/reasons do not back up their position.
Accomplished

The student has used 5 short paragraphs:
P1-introduce his or her position on a topic
P2, P3, and P4-give three arguments/reasons to back up their position.
P5-Sums up their main position on topic and call to action.
Introduction Paragraph

Beginning

The student did not have the 5 parts of the introduction.
Developing

The student gave his or her position on the topic, but was missing one of the 5 parts of the introduction.
Accomplished

The student had the 5 parts of the introduction
Conclusion Paragraph

Beginning

The student did not use the main idea to bring their paper to a close.
Developing

The student used the main idea to end the paper, but did not restate the ideas and creatively call for action or change.
Accomplished

The student restated the main ideas of their essay, called for action or change, and brought their paper to a natural close.
Grammar and Spelling & Word Choice

Beginning

More than 5 spelling, capitalization, punctuation, or grammatical errors.
Ideas are never expressed using strong or precise language.
Developing

Three to five spelling, capitalization, punctuation, or grammatical errors.Ideas are sometimes expressed using strong and precise language.

Zero to two spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and grammatical errors.
Ideas are always expressed using strong and precise language.
