Approaching The student was not totally successful in telling the main idea of the story.	Meeting The student successfully told the main idea for the selection read.	Surpassing The student successfully told the main idea for the selection read using complete sentences and expanded or showed superior understanding.
Supporting details	Beginning The student did not include any supporting details related to the the main idea of the selection read, or wrote the main idea rather than details.	Approaching The student included a one or two important details related to the main idea of the selection read.	Meeting The student supported the main idea with three details from the selection read.	Surpassing The student supported the main idea with more than three details which are organized in correct sequence and written in complete sentences.
