Below Standard Student reads independently, but does not necessarily enjoy reading. She requires ongoing support to read when the opportunity is given.
Book Choice	Exceeds Standard Student has success in finding an appropriate book. She is keenly aware of her likes and dislikes. She tries a variety of genres.	Meets Standard Student is somewhat successful in finding an appropriate book. She is aware of her likes and dislikes, but has difficulty attempting new genres/authors.
