Observe- Composition

Exceeds Expectations

A composition was chosen from the resource material provided and the subject matter was interpreted somewhat abstractly very well through the use of cut and torn paper shapes and colors. Shapes represent a specific theme and shows advanced evidence of planning and unity. Most items relate to the theme and are clear without explanation.
Meets Expectations

Composition is recognizable. Most shapes represent the subject well and show some evidence of planning and unity. Some items relate to the theme and may or may not be clear without explanation.
Approaching Expectations

Composition needs improvement. Only a little evidence of planning and unity. Only a few shapes look like they represent the specific theme.
Not Yet Meeting Expectations

Hard to see how the composition relates to the resource photo. Unclear how shapes represent a specific theme. Little evidence of planning.
Observe-Composition/Space

Exceeds Expectations

Advanced evidence of overlapping to create illusion of space. A variety of sizes of items were included in the collage. Student overlapped items on the page. The composition has rhythm and is aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
Meets Expectations

Proficient evidence of overlapping to create illusion of space. A variety of sizes of items were included in the collage with 2 or more shapes overlap.
Approaching Expectations

Limited evidence of overlapping to create illusion of space. A variety of sizes of items were included in the collage with 1 or less shapes overlap.
Not Yet Meeting Expectations

Student did not follow the requirements for the composition. Items are haphazardly placed on the page. Shows little evidence of space
Develop Craft/Collage

Exceeds Expectations

Shapes are neatly cut out or carefully torn and layered in calculated and deliberate placement with overlapping and full layers to make a well-done collage. All items are carefully glued on.
Meets Expectations

Collage is mostly neat and well-glued but there may be a few undeveloped areas that don't look as calculated and planned or a few pieces that could use better gluing.
Approaching Expectations

Collage appears fairly haphazard and a little messy and could use improvement. Shapes lack attention to cutting, tearing or placement. Too much glue or not enough. (shapes may be falling off)
Not Yet Meeting Expectations

Not much of an attempt to cut or tear paper shapes to represent the resource photo effectively. Messy application and no real care taken.
Assignment is considered incomplete.
Engage & Persist/Effort

Exceeds Expectations

Class time was used wisely. Much time and effort went into the planning and creating of the collage. Excellent effort is evident in the creative and successful results of the collage.
Meets Expectations

Most (sufficient) class time was used wisely, but with slightly more effort the results could be even better.
Approaching Expectations

Student could have been more focused while the creating the piece. Needed reminders to stay on task.
Not Yet Meeting Expectations

Class time was not used wisely and/or student put little effort into the assignment. Assignment is incomplete due to lack of focus, off task behavior and/or lack of attention to criteria.
Reflect/Reflection Questions

Exceeds Expectations

Reflection questions were answered thoroughly and thoughtfully with understanding and references to what should have been learned through this lesson about the art element of shape and the process of collage to create abstracted works.
Meets Expectations

Reflection questions were answered fairly well with some evident understanding of the goals of using the element of shape and process of collage to create abstract interpretations.
Approaching Expectations

Reflection questions were answered with short answers and show some lack of understanding of the use of shape and the process of collage.
Not Yet Meeting Expectations

Reflection questions were barely or not really answered well.
