Who or What	Level 1 I have no who or what in my sentence.	Level 2 I use pronouns/nouns to tell about the who or what in my sentence. My reader does not know who or what I am writing about.	Level 3 I use common or proper nouns to tell about the who or what in my sentence. My reader knows who or what I am writing about.	Level 4 I use common or proper nouns to tell about the who or what in my sentence. I also use describing words to tell more about the who or what.
Action	Level 1 There are no action words in my sentences.	Level 2 I use one simple action word in my sentences. There are no details telling about the action.	Level 3 I use action words in my sentences. I also use adjectives to describe the action.	Level 4 I use action words in my sentences. I use many colorful words to describe the action.
Captialization	Level 1 There is no capitalization in my sentence.	Level 2 Some of the words that need to be capitalized are, but there are some words that are not capitalized.	Level 3 Most words that need to be capitalized are. I have capitalized the beginning of the sentence and most proper nouns are capitalized.	Level 4 All words that need to be capitalized are.
